History of Penguin Coding Robotics Team

Written by Penguin Blogger | Sep 2, 2023 10:32:18 AM

This upcoming August, Penguin is continuing their seasonal participation in Lego Robotics Competitions. These leagues at Penguin are invitation only, and determined by each student’s individual level, in terms of their experience with robotics classes. We also recently added the addition of our Kindergarten robotics program, where kids only need to know how to swipe back and forth on an Ipad. Lego Robotics using Lego Spike Prime or WeDo kits and making different robots out of Legos. Using drag and drop coding they can program the robots to move, make sound, change colors and more.

Penguin Awards

In the past few years, Penguin has competed in numerous competitions at the Regional and State level. We have many different teams as well including all girls, all boys, and mixed gender teams. Here at Penguin, we are all about inclusion and working as a team to get the job done. Students not only learn the power of code when it comes to robotics, but the importance of working together to create something inventive and extraordinary.

In 2019 our “City Shaper” team won 1st place at regionals for teamwork

From the 2021 season, our “Clickin Connectors” team won 2nd place overall at qualifiers

What is LEGO Robotics?

LEGO Robotics is a programming building course that teaches kids teamwork and communication skills. Students can create, build, and program robots, vehicles, and machines by learning basic concepts of code. Using languages like Python and Word Blocks kids ages 9-14 will gain real world problem solving knowledge and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through our robotics program. Join our Penguin team today and let's build for a better future together!

Head Robotics Teacher

One of our amazing teachers at Penguin Coding School, teaches robotics classes as well as leading our teams to victory in the First Lego League Competitions. DongMei has been teaching at Penguin since 2019 and has loved every minute of it. I got the opportunity to sit down with her and hear her excitement in regards to our Robotics program.

Why do you love doing robotics competitions with the kids?

DM: “I love working with the students for the FLL competition because of the creativity that the students have when it comes to solving missions and creating an innovation project. It’s especially great to get to work with a group of students and get to know them throughout the season. The kids not only grow to become stronger teammates but they also develop key engineering skills.

What are you hoping for this upcoming fall season?

DM: In the fall I’m looking forward to old and new teams coming together and collaborating to become even more successful.

Fall 2022 Season

At Penguin coding, we want you on our team this year to go head to head with other robotics teams. It is important for us to build participation numbers and diversify our teams to the best of our ability. Each year is a new learning experience for all of the people involved, including the teachers.
